Do you want to read more sustainably? Is your resolution to be more eco-friendly this year?
There are lots of ways to be more environmentally friendly - recycling as much as possible, buying less or buying secondhand, using the car less, walking when possible, re-using items, but when it comes to our hobbies what can we do to make those more sustainable?
We all love reading and I know alot of you have very big tbr piles, but what happens when you've read those books? Do they sit on your shelves taking up valuable space, do you pass them on, donate them or (dare I say it) bin them 🥺. Although I can't imagine any booklover binning books. Unfortunately lots and lots of books do end up in landfill, but there are ways to stop this from happening.
If you still like to hold a physical book in your hand (I know I do), two things that help to read more sustainably is to buy second hand books and then pass the books on. I have a small selection of books that I keep - a favourite book series, special books and a few classics but other than that my books get passed on. Also let people know that you are happy to receive second-hand books as gifts as not many people feel comfortable gifting second hand presents, even if they do buy second hand themselves.
If you think your books are not in very good condition and not suitable for donating or passing on to someone else, books can be recycled but only if they are dry, and if they are a hardback you need to dispose of the hard cover separately. I have also seen people getting creative with the pages of old unused books by making things out of them - bookmarks, decorations or even paper bouquets.
I have been trying to be more environmentally friendly for a couple of years now and this is also why I am proud to sell preloved books and will continue to only sell pre-read books. As an added bonus second hand books are cheaper than new books. I sell paperbacks for £2.50 usually so much cheaper than new books. The images below are a small selection of what I have available at the minute.
Take a look at my website to see more of the books I have available or if you are looking for anything in particular let me know and I can tell you if I have it as not all the books have been added to the website yet.
